They came from all over the county to enjoy not only fine food and the company of other readers but also to tour the country house gardens carefully nurtured by head gardener David Barker. Almost 90 readers were at the event, one of the biggest organised by Yorkshire Life and hosted by Middlethorpe Hall, who enjoyed a summer lunch which included asparagus and pea mousse, braised shoulder of lamb and strawberry and vanilla cream. Our food and wine consultant Annie Stirk congratulated the chefs on their choice of flavours and their light touch which brought appreciative applause from readers.
