A pretty market town that is one of the main attractions of Nidderdale

If you’re visiting Nidderdale, it’s most likely that you will pass by the market town of Pateley Bridge, that sits right in the heart of the Area of Natural Beauty.

The town was granted a charter for a market and fair in the 14th century and people still flock here to visit the number of independent businesses, including ‘The Oldest Sweet Shop in England’ that dates back to 1827.

You pass by Pateley Bridge when you take the coast to coast cycle route from Morecambe to Bridlington called the Way of the Roses. If you prefer to walk, you can try these walks to Middlesmoor, Gouthwaite or Ramsgill.

To the west, you can also explore Coldstones Cut, Yorkshire’s biggest and highest public artwork and a tribute to the quarrying industry, to the east you can view the natural wonder at Brimham Rocks.
