Stokesley Food Week returns for a third year bigger and better, say organisers. A host of local food and drink producers will showcase their products from October 1st-7th

Among the highlight is the Northern Dales Farmers Market which will stage its biggest-ever market featuring a range of local producers from across the North of England.

The food week is organised by Stokesley Town Council, with support from a range of local business and organisations. Ian Blakemore, parish councillor, said: ‘It’s great to see the enthusiasm for this event growing year on year, with great involvement across the community. An ever-increasing range of organisations and food businesses large and small are keen to be involved.

‘The town council is really pleased to be hosting this event again this year and are looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors to sample the range of food and drink on offer throughout the week.’

Stewart Brennan, parish councillor, added: ‘ Stokesley Food Week is all about our local restaurants, pubs, cafes and food retailers promoting their own special offers for the week and making Stokesley an even better place to dine out and to shop. We have fantastic support from many local businesses again this year and we’re excited to be showcasing some amazing producers as well as live music and entertainment.

‘We really hope to build upon the success of previous years and to make this year bigger and better than ever before, encouraging more people to visit our market town.’

Jane Ablett, from Chapter’s Deli which is supporting the event with pop-up food demonstrations, a prosecco bar plus live music, said she likes to think the whole town can come together to support each other and to help bring in new and existing visitors. ‘We are very grateful to the town council for helping organise this for us, it really does make us all appreciate what a great town Stokesley is.’

Another of the event’s highlights is a special Gin and Jazz party in the town hall on Friday, October 6th. The party, organised by Angrove Park, an events and camping venue at Great Ayton will offer over 40 gins as well as a range of canapés plus live music. Tickets are £15 and available from the town hall. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to a local food-bank charity. w

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire – and flavour. It’s not a new technique – our prehistoric ancestors were preserving meat with smoke while still discussing whether or not to invent the wheel (they voted ‘yes’ in the end) – but it is enjoying something of a renaissance among contemporary carnivores.
