Culinary visionaries Malcolm Reid and Colin Long set the standard in quality food and service in 1962 when they opened The Box Tree – a regional restaurant to compete with London’s star eateries.
Their work continues today under the gifted guidance of Marco Pierre White, who trained in the Ilkley restaurant’s kitchen when he was 17, and his friends Simon and Rena Gueller, who have been in the restaurant business for more than 20 years.
Marco and Simon met as teenagers and formed an enduring friendship; a friendship that brought them even closer when they took on The Box Tree and propelled it into the 21st century.
The restaurant recently announced it had retained its Michelin Star for the eighth consecutive year – making 13 years in all for chef Simon. The news marked the start of a year of celebrations for The Box Tree’s milestone anniversary, kicking off in high style with a champagne party for friends and supporters.
