We highlight the work of a charity dedicated to those in the food, drink and hotel industries.

Our chosen charity for this year’s Yorkshire Life Food & Drink Awards is Hospitality Action. It offers crucial support to people of all ages, working and retired, from the hospitality industry.

The charity’s beneficiaries come from all walks of life and from all areas of the hospitality industry across the UK. There is help for those who face serious difficulties on a daily basis: from life-changing illness and poverty to bereavement and homelessness. Sometimes all it takes is a very small change in circumstances to tip the balance and turn a manageable situation into an unmanageable one.

Hospitality Action stepped in to help husband and wife Craig and Antonia who had over 30 years in the hospitality industry between them, working hard towards owning a small and successful catering business in the North of England. Yet when Craig was diagnosed with cancer the business collapsed and the couple fell into debt. Hospitality Action offered a grant to help ease the financial burden. When Craig died Hospitality Action helped to cover the cost of his funeral and continues to support his widow and their two-year-old son Charlie as they rebuild their lives.
