We are extremely lucky this year to once again have a prestigious line up of judges, says Annie Stirk our food and drink consultant and chair of our awards judging panel. I am delighted to welcome back a few familiar faces, who represent fantastic experience right across the food, drink and hospitality sector.

Jill Turton is a food writer and restaurant critic and with Mandy Wragg, one of our new judges, runs Squidbeak an online restaurant review guide. Jill and Mandy also both write for several well-known food guides.

John Moorhouse from Hallgarten Druitt is our wine expert and, Robert Ramsden, is a man whose job it is to seek out amazing local producers for Delifresh, who supply many of Yorkshires top hotels and restaurants.

Stephanie Moon, who has appeared on BBCs Great British Men twice, lectures at Leeds College and is chef consultant to Rudding Park, Harrogate. Christopher Turner is another new team member and runs the award-winning Low Penhowe near Malton, North Yorkshire.

The judges, adds Annie, have been impressed with the way business owners are facing up to tough times. She says: If anything, they are finding that there is a huge amount of creativity and inventiveness
out there. Pubs, restaurants and hotels alike are coming up with creative ideas to tempt customers in. Eating out is still one of Yorkshires favourite pastimes, and although customers many not be dining out as often, they still love the conviviality of local pubs and restaurants.

The places that are ahead of the game are those that are pro-active with their marketing and prepared to offer incentives.

It is very interesting touring the county and seeing our creative food businesses at work - being ahead of the game is what it is all about to remain at the top. We have found some great new spots that we cant wait to tell you about.

Meanwhile sponsors Total Foodservice Solutions Ltd, Clitheroe, Lancashire, say they are committed to supporting businesses in Yorkshire and the North West with passion for what they do.

Maria Moriarty Eames, brand and marketing director, says: The food and drink industry across the North West and Yorkshire is simply outstanding and as a regional supplier who loves to work with local businesses who share a passion for great food and creative menus, were excited to be supporting the Yorkshire Life Food & Drink Awards.

We are committed to working with the very highest quality local producers and eating establishments and so it is essential we recognise and celebrate those right here on our doorstep.

The Yorkshire Life Food & Drink Awards are celebrated at a lunch hosted by the White Hart Hotel, Harrogate on Monday, September 17th.

Our special guest is MasterChef finalist Tom Rennolds, from Silsden, West Yorkshire.
