With more than 12,000 different products in stock, Campbells of Leyburn offers the choice, economy and one-stop-shop convenience of a big city supermarket – and that is just one of many features that make them a leading shopping venue for an ever-expanding customer base.

Currently looking its best after internal and external re-decoration and a radical refurbishment that included widening the aisles to improve accessibility, the store is perfectly set up to make the weekly shop simple and stress free.

After 149 years in the ownership of the Campbell family, it has also developed a range of features that enable it to offer a truly unique shopping experience.

For example, the first floor is almost entirely devoted to a stunning selection of wines, spirits and beers. Virtually every significant wine growing region in the world is represented in what is probably the largest selection on the shelves of any North of England retail outlet.

Malt whisky is also particularly well represented – together with some unusual and hand-crafted products - among more than 300 different spirits. For beer lovers, there are local, national and international products to mull over.

A section of the first floor has been converted into an events area known as Upstairs at Campbells, which is the venue for regular meetings of the hugely popular Campbells of Leyburn Wine Club and occasional wine and spirit tasting sessions.

Other features that give a unique flavour to shopping at Campbells of Leyburn include

Traditional Butchers: Close links with local farmers and extensive experience of sourcing meat from rare breeds has made Campbells the first choice supplier to a number of gourmet restaurants. They are also experts at meeting the needs of households with much tighter budgets.

Deli Delight: Mouth-watering aromas rising from many exotic tasting products make the delicatessen a delight for all the senses.

Say Cheeses: A pan-European selection of artisan cheeses made from cows’, goats’ and ewes’ milk and more than 100 English and European cheeses make their cheese counter memorable – and that’s without counting a large retail selection of local Wensleydale cheeses.

Upper Crust: Campbells’ own bread baked on the premises is complemented by gourmet breads created by the experts at Bedale Artisan Bakery. The store also stocks gluten-free breads suitable for people suffering from coeliac disease.

Own Brand: Campbells policy of supporting local suppliers means that many exciting and innovative products are introduced on its shelves – often under its own brand.
