Baking of all kinds is the rage now but not everyone has the time or the knack of turning out the perfect loaf or a beautiful cake. So we found a few of the expert bakeries in Leeds which daily do the job for us.

Bagel Nash
This is where you will find some of the finest tasting bagels. The bakery began in Leeds and now has several branches in the city plus outlets in Huddersfield, Hull, York, Manchester and Derby. The bakery uses a long fermentation cycle and only natural ingredients with no preservatives or added fat or oils in their bagels. And the fillings are energy packed: try cream cheese and fresh fruits; breakfast bagel of scrambled egg, hot crispy bacon topped with tomato; a ham and cheddar club; traditional smoked salmon and cream cheese or just simply toasted with butter.

99 Street Lane, Leeds LS17 6HQ.

Costellos Family Craft Bakery
Everything is handmade from scratch with ingredients from local suppliers, independents whenever possible. And when the professional bakers here say everything is prepared by hand they mean it – pastry is rolled by hand with rolling pins; fillings including fruit and vegetables are peeled and chopped by hand and meats are hand cut. On the menu here is fresh bread, sweet and savoury pies, cakes and slices, quiches and tarts. They offer baking classes too.
