We ask the experts

Judging for Yorkshire Life Food & Drink Awards 2018 continues at a pace meanwhile we wanted to get to know a little more about three of our key sponsors and their thoughts on hospitality. We asked them:

1) How important is it to support regional hospitality?

2) What to you look for in customer service?

Here are their answers:

Gary Smulders, regional sales manager for wine merchants Hallgarten Druitt replied: ‘Regional restaurants, gastro pubs and wine bars are essential to attracting visitors to Yorkshire and in turn, generating jobs for local people. We are committed to supporting regional hospitality businesses as it gives us a platform to provide a broad selection of wines from exciting producers in the UK and across the world.

‘Customer service and training go hand in hand. Being served by someone that understands your needs as well as being informed about what they are offering goes a long way to enhancing the experience of a customer.’

Roger Wright for Stay in a Pub told us: ‘It is extremely important to support regional hospitality. When pinpointing a region of interest you look at their diversity, culture, places of interest and heritage and each part of the country will have a different offer. Support will in turn lead to thriving local communities and a healthy jobs market. Meet and greet and a positive first impression will set the tone for your customer experience. Businesses must get the balance right between initiating friendly and helpful communication without being over familiar.’

Staff at Spire Elland Hospital, Elland near Halifax our headline sponsor, told us: ‘Supporting regional hospitality is vital as our hospital seeks to offer hospitality to patients on a par with that of the wider community. As for customer service, our staff are caring and passionate about what they’re doing and are able to anticipate their customer needs. A favourite for the staff and patients is our freshly cooked fish & chips on a Friday.’ u
