Archant

Every year sees a new trend rising, but how do you ensure that when you’re considering a new look for your home, you choose wisely? Here’s our review of what’s hot for 2015, but we think these items will charm for years to come

Copper.

According to pretty much every interior designer you’ll meet, copper is THE trend for 2015. Adorning everything from cutlery to lighting and from fabrics to furniture, warm burnished copper is this year’s hot shade.

Go all out with a feature wall in rose copper, or contain yourself by settling for a nod to the trend with a hint of tint in a luxurious fabric, or a simple accessory, such as a wall or desk lamp. Copper lends itself particularly well to bathrooms and kitchens, where tiles can be muted or metallic, glow or glint and set off the room with style.

Grey

I can’t think that this trend has been directly driven by the coverage Fifty Shades of Grey has received of late, but looking at the sheer numbers of paint colours you can choose from, fifty is an understatement.

Grey is the new neutral, fast overtaking biscuit and cream as the colour of choice for room overhauls. It’s the perfect background colour against which to present almost every shade of the rainbow, and works a treat with another of this season’s hot trends – citrus bright accents in furniture and accessories.

Vintage

Upcycling, re-cyling…car boot sales have never looked so good. Bringing new life and offering a new home to vintage furniture is one of a homeowner’s true joys; you know you’ve found a one-off piece for your home and made it fit like a glove.

If true vintage doesn’t appeal, or you have a yen for a particular style, but just can’t find what you’re looking for, try a retro reproduction instead. This fabulous chair from G-Plan is an example of retro style given a contemporary update and forms part of their G Plan Vintage collection, created by Hemingway Design, who have taken already iconic designs and given them a twenty-first century tweak.

Wall stickers

This is a trend that has rather snuck up on us; it seems that one minute walls were either plain or patterned and now they can be a magical mixture of both!

Adding a wall sticker – in image form, words or geometric patterns - can add that final finishing touch from playrooms to kitchens and even bedrooms. Dramatic or whimsical, they allow you to complete an otherwise blank, bland space with a hint of personality.

Industrial

Another trend gaining traction in 2015 is the desire for an industrial look, which is – according to Lisa – filtering down from commercial designs for the bar and restaurant sector. The image here is a detail from one of Lisa’s recent bedroom designs, where squirrel cage pendants were hung on over long silk woven flex either side of the bed.

The industrial look picks up elements of almost every trend detailed here of course, from steel grey to copper and of course retro and reclaimed furniture. Add some loftspace chic to your kitchen, or give a gentle nod to the trend, whichever your preference there is so much to choose from your only challenge will be where to start.
