Colour plays an important part in creating a bedroom ambience. Create a haven with muted walls in creams, relaxing smoky blues or dusky pinks. Add fabrics and soft furnishings that are soft and luxurious to the touch, with natural fluidity and a smooth texture.

Layer your windows and shut out the world with the ultimate in decadence, a silk fabric curtain, draped on the floor and held with a crystal tie back. Satin and quality cotton can also provide wonderfully tactile window treatments.


Use subtle lighting to bring a gentle, amorous softness into the room. Side or table lamps with low wattage bulbs, or even GARDENSconsider replacing a bright overhead ceiling light with the ultimate in romance an ornate chandelier. Lanterns provide ambience and scented candles can add the aroma, especially those with ylang ylang, reputed to be a mild aphrodisiac.


Treat your feet with warm and cosy wall to wall carpet or a loose laid rug in soft, warm and smoky tones.


French style furniture often works well in the boudoir. Yet your bed doesnt have to be a decorative four poster; oversize headboards upholstered in soft textured fabrics and layered with cushions can provide an ideal sensual focus to a room. Cushions dont have to be matching, but they should be sumptuous; a mixture of velvets and silks, styles and patterns, teamed with a soft textured throw.


The finishing touches, tactile accessories, can add an inviting touch to a bedroom. Large vases with feathers or silk flowers, or bring the food of love into the bedroom with heart themed dishes and placemats.
