Sink your feet into beautiful carpets and luxurious rugs, says Justine Kirkham
Exciting things are happening underfoot this year. Whether it’s striped carpets, pretty tiles or parquet flooring, it’s all about bolder flooring choices. Carpets are back in fashion, especially in bedrooms, for greater comfort under bare feet. The key is to choose the most appropriate type for your space.
Hardwood flooring is classic, regal and beautiful with larger planks that help showcase space in larger homes. Parquet, chevron and mosaic wood are back in fashion with strips of hardwood laid in simple designs or intricate patterns with multiple colours. Stone flooring is still the most popular for anyone looking for the wow factor. But this year stone flooring sparkles with metallic tones and hues, helping to create a truly bespoke and glamorous look for the home. Vinyl flooring has greatly improved.
Luxury vinyl tiles now recreate the lavish look of granite or marble for a fraction of the price with extra durability. This is a particularly good choice bathrooms, laundries and boot rooms.
A textured rug can add interest and depth to any room, in sisals, soft silk or the more affordable ‘art silk’. The silk imitation rug is a great reflector of light and offers a beautiful sheen, especially in taupe and beige.
For total luxury in textured rugs, my favourite is the Zoffany Pure Mohair range - you don’t need to wear slippers with one of those in the house.
