Finishing touches can bring renewed vibrancy to your kitchen, says Justine Kirkham, head of design at James Brindley, Harrogate
Sometimes the easiest way to give an old and tired kitchen scheme a lift is through fresh new accessories. Take inspiration from the natural woods and botanical trend in interiors this summer with the Olive Wood collection at Lakeland. The range, which includes utensils, platters and pestle and mortar, is a great example of the country modern look, radiating gentle rustic charm without appearing old-fashioned.
My current favourite is the Just Slate Company with its natural look combined with a more urban, modern edge. This stylish slate tableware is hand crafted in Scotland using traditional methods. The range includes heart shaped placemats and coasters, trays with quirky silver antler or chilli shaped handles and platters. It looks great paired with natural woods and is perfect for entertaining at home, offering a contemporary look to your dining table.
The Emma Bridgewater collection allows you to channel your inner Mary Berry, so even if your baking results leave a lot to be desired, at least they’ll look fabulous! Choose this range for pastel-hued mixing bowls, jugs and girlie tea towels. Laura Ashley also has a beautiful ‘Beside the Seaside’ collection of china featuring pretty hand drawn seaside scenes in pastel colours.
For glamorous chic, the William Yeowood Art Glass collection certainly makes a statement in any modern kitchen. Handmade in England by the most talented of artisans, the range creates a striking jewel-like effect in the sunlight and a magical ambiance by candlelight.
Today’s appliances not only serve a purpose but also come in a rainbow of colours to effectively add bursts of colour to your room. The retro good looks of the green Kitchenaid Artisan Stand Mixer and a Lakeland Pastel Blue Kettle would sit beautifully on any worktop. DeLonghi makes a line of stunning kitchen appliances that are almost art, from canary yellow toasters to hot pink coffee makers.
