Reveal your flamboyant self with the help of bigger and bolder flooring designs, says Ross McDill
Flooring is now the golden ticket to interiors as designers look for exciting new opportunities to make an impact on every available surface. Designs are bigger and bolder than ever before helped along by innovative digital printing techniques in vinyl and more adventurous choices in modular tiling, colour mixing and abstract design.
After a time of exposed floorboards, carpets are very much back in vogue. They offer an easy way to add warmth and lend a luxurious feel to a room without the clutter of too many soft furnishings. They are softer and more sumptuous, providing greater comfort underfoot and enticing you into an interior space. Last year’s bold stripes and loud geometric patterns have intensified; for maximum effect, keep the rest of the scheme neutral and minimise decoration.
For those looking for the same level of impact without long-term commitment, rugs offer a practical and flexible interiors solution. A textured rug can add a focal point and a sense of symmetry to a room and is an excellent way of expressing personal taste. New for Spring/Summer 2015, Designers Guild have introduced a collection in collaboration with Christian Lacroix, pushing the boundaries of creative expression with some fabulous floral prints in bold colour combinations. Inspired by a visit to an oriental garden, these designs pick up on this year’s graphic botanicals and painterly trend and are full of the richness of summer. With a wealth of exciting flooring options out there, it’s time to embrace your flamboyant side.
