Working long hours in a old damp mill renovating old pieces of furniture wasnt the most glamorous start for a business, but Eastburn Country furniture has evolved in the last twenty years from its humble beginnings into a wonderful destination for beautiful furniture, soft furnishings and handmade solid wood kitchens.

Grassington born Simon Byrne is the brains behind the business, his keen eye for style and design has propelled Eastburn from its humble beginnings into an international company selling as far afield as America and Switzerland.

Simon moved into Eastburn Mills 21 years ago, he remembers it well as it was the day his first daughter was born, possibly not the easiest transitions to a new business, but obviously a very successful one.
In the ensuing twenty years Eastburn has seen many transformations, growing its work force and developing its own instinctive style that keeps its regular customers returning time and time again.

The business thrives on producing one off specialist pieces, which are often made using reclaimed timber and other reclaimed architectural pieces that are bought by the company from all over the world, recent items have included kitchen islands with shelves made from old metal stair runners and tables made from beams salvaged from an old mill.

One key member of staff Shelagh, is the style guru when it comes to colour, she advises customers on all interior details for whatever piece they are intending to buy or have made

I love meeting the variety of people who visit us and discussing their ideas, some people know exactly what they want and others are looking for some inspiration on colour and style, either way its always wonderful to see a project from ideas on paper to the final finished article, no two project are alike which keeps the job so exciting.

On saturdays shelagh uses the lovely old aga that sits proudly in the showroom to bake for the customers, its great to show customers our kitchens in a real working environment, were not just about showing our kitchens we want to really test them.

Eastburn have fitted kitchens in many lovely homes and estates throughout Yorkshire and the UK, we meet so many interesting people from all walks of life says Simon, it makes the job so rewarding, we recently fitted a kitchen and when we opened up the chimney we
found a time capsule that had been left there for over 45 years.

Eastburn seems to have really got everything when it comes to winning formulas, in a world of fast furniture its heart warming to know theres still some good honest furniture makers around.
