Croft Residential estate agents York specialises in marketing exclusive properties across North and West Yorkshire.

Croft Residential specialises in selling luxury rural and urban properties anywhere in North and West Yorkshire, as well as finding suitable homes for clients who are looking to move on. With a wide range of niche luxury properties that we have successfully sold - or bought - on behalf of clients, we are gaining a solid reputation as the go-to agency for well-to-do Yorkshire homeowners with an out-of-the-ordinary property to sell.

As the founder and director of Croft Residential, I was born and bred in the Yorkshire countryside and have always been thrilled by interesting properties. My grandfather ran a well known farm machinery business, Goughs of Hunsingore, and our family’s proud claim to fame is that his father was the first person in Yorkshire to sell a brand new invention that was the height of modern technology at the time – the combine harvester.

These days I’m lucky enough to live in the Hambleton Hills near Thirsk, home to some of the most glorious countryside in Britain, as well as some of its most splendid country houses. I feel incredibly fortunate to do the job I do. As an estate agent I meet amazing people on a day to day basis and one of the nicest parts of the job is that I can help them to overcome adversities and all the problems and difficulties that can be involved in moving house. I regard that as a real privilege.

It’s not surprising that the Yorkshire countryside and its unique properties continue to be a draw for people who want to move into the area, as well as those who want to stay here while downsizing or moving on to a larger property. Some of the stand-out country properties that we sold in 2015 include Gateforth Hall, a classic example of a grand Yorkshire country house, bristling with original Georgian features and set in lawned grounds near Selby. With seven bedrooms and a separate self-contained apartment, Gateforth represented excellent value for money at under £1.5m.

Grantley Hall near Ripon is a giant of a country house, which was on the market with a £5m price tag. With 15 bedrooms, nine reception rooms and over 30 acres of grounds, the grade II listed property is definitely more of a stately home than a simple house. Since its sale, Grantley Hall is now set to take on a new incarnation as a luxury spa hotel, which will attract visitors to the region from far and wide.

The luxury property market in York is also particularly fast paced at the moment and one of our areas of specialisation is selling unusual homes in the city. Croft Residential sold the city’s first million-pound apartment, a penthouse riverside property in the outstanding redevelopment of the previously derelict Bonding Warehouse at Skeldergate Bridge. We also sold the remaining three apartments in the scheme, all of which were completed to the highest specification, complete with indispensable, state-of-the-art, flood defences.

So, rural or urban, Croft Residential is all about interesting and unsual homes. We live and breathe the aesthetics of luxury Yorkshire houses and aim always to provide the very best advice and expertise to anyone who is looking to buy or sell a niche property.
