It can offer the opportunity to pursue your interests, spend time with family and friends and savour your surroundings – all from the comfort of a property you own.

Mariana Sanchez, care administrator at Hollins Hall, explains the benefits of moving to a retirement village.

Q: Can you tell us a little about Hollins Hall?

Life at Hollins Hall means owning your own home within a beautiful and secure environment. The main hall in the village is an imposing example of a late Georgian manor house, which was once the home to the Tetley family, renowned for their beer. The retirement village also has high-quality houses, cottages or apartments that are for sale to prospective residents; these are all set in 14 acres of award-winning, landscaped gardens, a short distance from Harrogate, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The properties vary in size and style, depending on requirements, but allow residents to live as independently as they choose and to welcome friends and family to stay. We have 71 properties on the site in total, including some that are currently for sale.

Q: What benefits are there to living in a retirement village?

As well as owning your own home, there may well be communal facilities to enjoy in a retirement village. Here at Hollins Hall, our residents can make the most of our beautiful gardens, without having to tend them – unless they wish to. Some residents choose to have their own plot to look after because they enjoy gardening. We also have a swimming pool here that residents and their friends and family can make the most of – and there is a bar and restaurant, which has recently been refurbished. Members of the public are very welcome to book a table here too.

Q: Will there be support if I need it?

Yes. If you want that safety net, then choose a retirement village that can provide a high level of support and care in the event that you ever need it. The properties at Hollins Hall have a comprehensive emergency call system and every resident can choose to wear a pendant for additional security. This gives them the reassurance that, should there be an emergency, they will always have someone to call on.

Q: What if I need a higher level of care?

That is available too in many retirement villages. Here at Hollins Hall we have a full-time care team, providing round-the-clock care on site. Most of our members of staff have worked with us for many years, which means we can provide a consistent service. Services offered range from carrying out basic household tasks and helping residents with medication, right through to support during short-term illnesses and more specialised long-term care if needed. This includes dementia care. We can tailor our care services to whatever our residents need.
