Bolton Abbey is one of the most visited places in Yorkshire.

The Bolton Abbey estate in Wharfedale is a popular place for walkers throughout the year and it’s also a great spot to take photos.

There is over 30,000 acres of beautiful countryside in the estate and around 80 miles of footpaths to walk and explore. The location has inspired artists throughout the ages, including a series of paintings by JMW Turner.

Turner first visited Bolton Abbey on his visit to Yorkshire in 1797 and completed a series of sketches and watercolours in the following years.

The Priory is a perfect subject to capture the lighting effects of the sun throughout the day and at all times of the year, there are various follies dotted throughout the grounds and one of the most photographed spots are the stepping stones across the River Wharfe.

Why don’t you upload your Bolton Abbey photos to the reader photo gallery? We pick the best ones each month to go in the magazine.
