Q You performed at the Grassington Festival a couple of years back, the power failed but that didnt faze you. Have you experienced any other unexpected stage events?

A We were in a town called Munster in Germany performing in a square surrounded by churches. The sound was reverberating off the buildings and the power failed, three times maybe it was God saying we were making too much noise.

Q Its been a while since you played Leeds but you are at the City Varieties in April which is a very special theatre. Do you have an appreciation of fine theatres?

A Beautiful theatres make us feel special when we perform. They dont have to be old, they can be state of the art, like the Sage theatre in Gateshead.

Q Youre touring widely at the moment how different are the audiences?

A Its been a crazy year. Weve been to Australia, India and the Netherlands but we are looking forward to coming home and touring in the UK. Yorkshire audiences are very friendly. We find that after the shows people like to chat and make friends with us. In Grassington people showed us the town and the local hostelry.

Q Is there any chance of a new studio album soon?

A Yes. Steve and James are working very hard on our new album which at the moment is called Britannia. Its based on British songs which should be out in the summer and we will be touring again in the autumn.

The Magnets are appearing at the City Varieties, Leeds, on April 17th. To find out about more go to themagnets.com
