10 things to do at the Great Yorkshire Show

The highlight of the Yorkshire countryside calendar returns to the Harrogate Showground on July 14th-16th

Cattle
The Grand Cattle Parade is one of the most popular events that takes place in the Main Ring and takes place on Wednesday and Thursday at 2pm, there are also a wide range of competitions in the Cattle Ring including the Dairy Young Handlers Competition, Wednesday 8:30am - 2:00pm.

Show Jumping
There are 6 classes of show jumping in the Main Ring, the Band of the Kings Division will also be on hand to entertain the crowds in between sections.

The Sheep Show
If you don’t like sheep then you seriously have to check your Yorkshire credentials, the Sheep Show lasts 30 minutes and runs four times on each day at 10am, 12.30pm, 2.00pm and 3.30pm. Where does it take place? Next to the Black Sheep Baar, of course.

The Cheese and Dairy Show
A must for all you Yorkshire foodies - find out who takes home the best in show awards at the presentation on 11am on Wednesday. There’s also a Cheese-making demonstration with Wensleydale Creamery on the Wednesday and Thursday.

Cookery Demonstrations
Some of Yorkshire’s most talented chefs will be at the Game Cookery Theatre during the show, they include: Adam Smith, Devonshire Hotel, Bolton Abbey; James Mackenzie, The Pipe and Glass, Beverley; Simon Crannage, Swinton Park, Masham and Stephanie Moon of Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate.

Fashion Show
For all you fashionistas who are looking for some country style, the Fashion Pavillion is the venue for a fashion show displaying the works of local designers and students. There are four runs a day at 11am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 4pm

Country Pursuits
Animals take centre stage in the Country Pursuits section, there are falconry displays, gundogs, ferrets and even a demonstration by the British Deer Society.

Art Demonstrations
The Art Pavillion hosts a full programme of demonstrations and talks from a range of local artists that specialise in Sea Birds & Sketching, Equestrian, Landscape, Sculptures and much more.

Blacksmithing
Learn the key basic techniques that are the foundation to all blacksmiths forge work, try your hand at forging your own work with an hammer and anvil.

Shetland Pony Grand National
A new addition to the Great Yorkshire Show, The Shetland Pony Grand National is sure to be a crowd favourite. Starters orders will be around 3pm on all three days, but get there early to get a good seat.
