The audience at the Crown Hotel, Harrogate were mesmerised by Jamie Bartlett, director of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media and author of The Dark Net.
He has met everyone from radical extremists, women performing webcam sex shows to civil liberty groups evading censorship from repressive regimes.
The anonymity of the Dark Web makes it hard to police. Jamie, an expert on social media, explained how tech is changing political and social movements.
Meanwhile, forensic psychologist and author of Is There a Psycho in Your Life? Kerry Daynes made guests think twice about sitting next to them let alone everyone else they meet. She has worked with some of the country’s most notorious psychopathic criminals, from inmates in maximum security prisons to high risk individuals in the community. And through her studies, she has become increasingly aware of psychopaths in other walks of life and how they operate. Most of us sit on the scale of psychopathic tendencies, she says: some of us are on the brink and some hide in the corporate world.
