Guests helped to raise £4,600 for the Burns and Plastic Surgery Research Unit Pinderfields Hospital during a dinner dance at Oulton Hall, Leeds. One of the organisers, Penny Southern, said their aim was to raise the profile of the relatively new research unit as well as much needed funds to develop areas of interest around plastic surgery, trauma and burns.
‘With increased funding we can support our researchers to develop new ideas in the hope of improving patient care,’ she said. ‘We have developed a close affiliation with the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention at Huddersfield University, sharing many ideas between departments.
‘Our guest of honour, Oliver Fenton MBE, has worked at Pinderfields Hospital for over 25 years, retiring from the NHS last year.
‘He has undertaken voluntary overseas charity work since 1990, operating on children with cleft lips and palates and other birth and burns defects.’
