Our photo special brings you some of the not-to-be forgotten highlights of the 157th Great Yorkshire Show. Photographs by Andy Bulmer and Kate Mallender.

Crowds packed the showground at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate including royal visitors Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. They joined a total of 132,131 people who came through the gates over the three-day event, topping last year’s 130,989 figure. The couple toured the show on the opening day, stopping often to talk to those competing for trophies in the many different classes. There were record entries in six of the 24 classes including sheep and pigs.

The stars of television’s The One Show and Blue Peter also joined the crowds and tried their hands at a host of activities including the One Man and his Pig competition.

A new show director, Charles Mills took over the reins from Bill Cowling who stepped down after a decade in the role. Mr Mills said: ‘The Great Yorkshire Show has an amazing reputation as a superb industry showcase as well as a fun and educational day out for all the family. Our vital role in celebrating farming excellence will continue and the presence of our royal patron underlines the significance of the show to the rural community and beyond.’
