Vocational training and skills centre BACKSTAGE ACADEMY® will be holding an Open Day on Sunday July 15, between 11am – 4pm.

Vocational training and skills centre BACKSTAGE ACADEMY will be holding an Open Day next Sunday July 15, between 11am 4pm.

Visitors are invited to take an Access All Areas tour around the LS-Live facility, take part in hands-on technology demonstrations, and learn more about the Foundation Degree in Live Events Production (validated by The University of Bolton) and short courses in skills such as Fire Safety, First Aid, Working with Electricity, Event Safety Passport, Final Cut, Logic and ProTools. Staff and tutors will be on hand to discuss the many opportunities to get involved with BACKSTAGE ACADEMY, whether as a student, partner, or supporting institution.

There will be plenty of entertainment on the day; the 17,664 sq ft studio arena will be hosting West Yorkshire Polices charity Battle of the Bands event from 12pm 5pm, where 10 local schools bands will perform songs about crime and anti-social behaviours in the community, in the hope of impressing the judging panel, which includes Chumbawambas Jude Abbott. Wakefields Olympic Torch bearer Karen Townend will be bringing the torch to the event.

Visitors can view the action in the studio (or sign up to the Battle of the Bands event on the day), learn how a large-scale production is put together on site, and take a tour round the rest of the facilities, which include an Apple Authorised Training Centre, 3D viewing suite, conference room, studios, dressing rooms, green room, production offices, dance studio and gym.

BACKSTAGE ACADEMY is currently accepting applications for the Foundation Degree, which commences this November. The course is a fast-track 16-month programme designed to equip students with a wide range of knowledge of the live events industry, from lighting, sound and video to event planning, staging and contemporary issues. Uniting education closely with industry, the course includes two work experience modules and masterclasses with top professionals and technology providers.

Based at the LS-Live rehearsal facility - used by international stars like Kasabian, Jay-Z and Robbie Williams BACKSTAGE ACADEMY benefits from its close links to cutting-edge productions, meaning students have access to leading industry contacts and fantastic work experience opportunities.
