From the vast open moors to the dramatic coastline, Yorkshire is one of the UKs most intriguing regions. Many visitors to the area choose to make the most of their trip by renting a self-catering holiday cottage as the perfect base to explore.

Aside from the great walking opportunities on the Dales, Yorkshire has plenty to offer for outdoors enthusiasts. Head to one of the free National Nature Reserves and explore some of the most unusual habitats such as the Humberhead Peatlands to blow away the cobwebs. Water babies will also be spoilt for choice; why not try white water rafting on the Washburn River or hire a kayak and tackle the waves off Flamborough Head?
The walled city of York is well worth a visit with its historic architecture and quaint cobbled streets full of an eclectic mix of shops. Close to York is the spa town of Harrogate where Bettys Tearoom is a welcome treat after a long day exploring. Nearing its centenary, no visit to Harrogate is complete without sampling one of Bettys famous Fat Rascals, a scone-like cake packed with dried fruit and delicious warm spread with butter. Coinciding your trip with a meeting at the race course is also a great way to spend a few hours if you fancy a flutter. Bradford born David Hockney is the most famous of Yorkshires arty exports but the region has a strong creative history with plenty to offer art fans all year round.
Wherever you choose to make your holiday home, you will be rewarded with fantastic views and will be ideally located to explore Yorkshire. Not only is a holiday cottage a great value for money option but it is also a really flexible choice for travelling with the family.
