One of the countys biggest charities Yorkshire Cancer Research added its support to this summers Harrogate International Festivals leading event A Night with Alan Bennett.
The celebrated author who has written countless dramas for stage and screen, appeared at Harrogates Royal Hall in front of a packed audience to discuss his award-winning work. The playwright then attended an exclusive Yorkshire Cancer Research drinks reception where he offered the Harrogate-based charity six signed copies of his books for auction much to the delight of Yorkshire Cancer Research chief executive Mark Stevens.
Mr Stevens said: Alan, as many people now know, battled colon cancer for many years and so he knows how important it is to support the work of charities like Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Yorkshire Cancer Research funds internationally recognised research at its five centres of excellence at the universities of Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York. Its funding enables scientists from across the world to bring their expertise to our region.
