My coastal life Q&A

Nigel Brunt, director of sales and marketing for the Raithwaite estate

What brought you to the yorkshire coast?

‘I moved to the area two and a half years ago specifically to open the new Raithwaite Hall Country Estate.’

What keeps you here?

‘My job is keeping me in the area but the beautiful scenery, laid back lifestyle, gorgeous food and friendly locals are making it a very easy place to live.’

Do you have a favourite view?

‘My favourite view is driving down Lyth Bank to Sandsend and looking towards Whitby. It’s amazing and one of the best views I’ve ever experienced.’

Where’s the best place to eat?

‘I’d have to say the Brace Restaurant at Raithwaite with my business hat on, but I also love taking a walk down to Sandsend and

enjoying a hearty meal at the Hart Inn and a quick pint with the comical locals and welcoming landlord Mr Homer.’

What’s the best thing about living on the coast?

‘Yorkshire isn’t known as God’s county by chance and the coast is a big part of this. It has everything from beaches, fresh air, great views, the North York Moors, great food, great pubs, friendly people and Whitby Town Football Club.

Tell us a secret only locals know about.

‘Raithwaite is no ordinary estate. It has two hotels, a lakehouse, three bars, two restaurants, a spa and will soon have more

than 50 lodges and cottages.
