Our food and wine consultant Annie Stirk describes the work involved in preparation for the coveted Yorkshire Life Food & Wine Awards
The judging process starts in April when we gather together some of the top experts in the food industry who make up our judging panel - many of them past winners of a Yorkshire Life Food & Wine Award.
They represent all areas of the hospitality business, as hoteliers, chefs, restaurateurs and the world of food writing and reviewing.
We handpick award contenders from across the county including those tucked away gems - the judges leave no stone unturned in their quest to discover the best.
The six-strong panel of judges is looking for unsung heroes, chefs who create dishes 'to die for' and to discover the great people and teams who constitently deliver exceptional guest, visitor and dining experiences.
We aim to find excellence and passion across all our 14 award categories. After many visits and long but enjoyable meetings we end up with an exclusive short list from which winners are chosen.
It is a fantastic achievement to win a Yorkshire Life Food & Wine Award.
It is public recognition not only of talent but the hard work, commitment and dedication it takes to succeed in often challenging times.
Yorkshire is one of the best counties in the country for food and drink and we are proud to celebrate its innovation and excellence.
