Jenny Dutson, owner of The Workshop in Hebden Bridge, makes a plea for help on behalf of the people of flood-hit Calder Valley

As you know, on Boxing Day, the Calder Valley was very badly hit by the floods. Over 80 per cent of businesses in Hebden Bridge and 90 per cent of businesses in Mytholmroyd were ruined by flooding. Many businesses were not insured (you just can’t get flood insurance around here any more) and whole towns are struggling to get up and running again, with many livelihoods lost.

We have joined together with another 102 of the worst affected businesses throughout the Calder Valley for a crowdfunding campaign called CalderdaleRising to try and help our towns get through this ordeal.

The campaign involves local businesses offering rewards that people can buy at a fixed rate, once the whole total has been reached, the businesses will fulfill the pledges that have been paid for.

We are aiming to raise over £150,000 over a 28 day period, and we are currently at around £123,000. If we do not reach this target, nobody receives the pledged money and we leave the campaign empty handed.
