The Ryedale Festival the jewel in Yorkshires cultural crown launched its superb and varied programme for 2012 in a concert held at St Peters Church Norton on Friday 13th April, where a large audience enjoyed a superb performance by the world-renowned Nash Ensemble.

The concert preceded the announcement of this years festival line-up. There are 45 events planned, with appearances by many notable international artists, including the distinguished York-born countertenor Iestyn Davies, top soprano Kate Royal, the Grammy award-winning jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock and the award-winning Norwegian Trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth.

In support of a grand tradition of Northern music-making there will also be concerts by the Orchestra of Opera North, Northern Sinfonia and the newly-formed Ryedale Festival Chorus. In addition, Ashley Riches - a fast-rising young singer from Goathland who is about to take up a place as a Young Artist at the Royal Opera House - will take the title role in the Ryedale Festival Opera production of Tchaikovskys great opera Eugene Onegin.

The festival, increasingly recognised as one of the most attractive and enterprising in the country, holds events in the many spectacular country houses of Ryedale and the Triple Concert at Castle Howard and Double Concert at Sledmere House are sure to be among the hottest tickets.

Robin Andrews, Chairman of Ryedale Festival commented We were very fortunate to have the internationally acclaimed Nash Ensemble in Yorkshire, a fitting start to this years Festival programme, which will feature many internationally acclaimed stars as well as some superb local musicians.

This years festival begins on Friday 13th July and runs through to the 29th July 2012
