Are you caring for an elderly relative or friend during Covid-19? Maybe after providing care and support to your loved ones at home over the last three months you need some extra support or a short break?

It has been a difficult few months for many families working through how best to support their loved ones at this time. For many older people the need for extra care has not stopped and in fact it may have increased. As many of us start to return to work and lockdown eases the pressure on our time to support older people in our community will be stretched.

There are obvious worries amongst families and older people about utilising the respite services available but one Leeds-based care provider is encouraging families and older people who may feel isolated or vulnerable at this time to get in contact and discuss whether their respite support options might be a way to recharge, rest and recuperate.

Westward Care have two locations in Leeds (Headingley Hall and Southlands Retirement Apartments in Roundhay) which offer luxury self-contained apartments with individual kitchens, bathroom and bedroom. This means that if anyone comes for a short-term stay, they can effectively have their own front-door and can isolate (if they so wish) from other neighbours. The main benefit however is the reassurance of 24/7 care and support staff on site. In addition, practical support with personal care, dining, laundry and housekeeping options are all available. During the Covid situation Westward Care have introduced several new procedures to keep everyone safe. All staff have access to the PPE they require and unlike many other providers they can facilitate visits using video calls, garden visits and other appropriate areas at each of the locations. This means families can still stay in touch.

Sharon Earnshaw, General Manager at Headingley Hall highlights, “Looking after older people is our passion and vocation. During the Covid crisis I’m proud to say all our staff have lived up to the CQC ‘Outstanding’ rating that our care home services achieved at the start of this year. We know this a hugely difficult time for many families caring for elderly relatives and friends who may need more support than be accommodated at home. I’d encourage people to just get in touch and chat through their individual circumstances. There is no obligation to do anything further but at least we can provide information on options available and maybe give them a virtual tour of our luxury apartments.”

Short-term stays are available from as little as one week so rather than struggle along at home why not contact Westward Care today on 0113 331 4830.
