Independent local menswear specialist, Matthew Wignall, has launched a unique business model which is set to take on the famous London based tailors of Savile Row, with his innovative service at the Gentleman’s Tailor, Wellington Place, Leeds.

Offering world famous cloth, renowned amongst Savile Row tailors, and sourced from the same Yorkshire based fabric houses, including Dormeuil, Hield and Huddersfield Cloth. The Gentleman’s Tailor provides personal fittings by appointment, and uses visual software to create concepts, style boards and designs that are bespoke to each individual, which speeds up timescales and reduces manufacturing costs.

Whilst staying true to the traditional style of tailoring, Matthew also provides an ‘at home or work’ service in a bid to fill the gap in the men’s retail market with high-end bespoke tailoring, which is accessible and affordable to all.

He commented: “until recently, bespoke tailoring has only been available to the wealthy few. My business model will provide high-end tailoring at off-the-peg-prices, without compromising on quality, craftsmanship or service. Everyone can now try bespoke.”

Their tailors are on hand to help create a beautifully personalised suit, shirt or jacket, combining traditional tailoring with contemporary British style – ensuring you’ll look and feel at your sartorial best, no matter what shape or size you are.

The former BBC costume designer and founder of The Gentleman’s Tailor started his training at Harrogate Collage, studying Art and Design. His career in fashion has enabled him to work with a number of prestigious menswear brands; including working with the leading men’s tailors on Savile Row.

With additional outlets launching in Otley, Ilkley and Sheffield, Matthew is happy to bring his expertise back home up North: “I grew up in Yorkshire and I’m extremely proud of my roots. I’m delighted to be opening a studio in the local area. Leeds is a wonderful city drawing shoppers from all over England. I believe that The Gentleman’s Tailor will provide locals and visitors, of all ages, a sartorial service that’s not only high-end, but affordable.”

The Gentleman’s Tailor is strictly appointment based only. To find out more and start creating your first bespoke suit call Matthew on 01423 740 940 or visit
